NLERAP Grow-Your-Own Latina/o Teacher Pipeline
As the Associate Director of the National Latino/a Education Research and Policy Project (NLERAP) I helped to lead a collaboration between institutions of higher education, local K-12 districts, and community-based organizations focused on increasing the representation of critically conscious, bilingual teachers in five cities and states—most notably Sacramento, California. With funding from the Ford and W.K. Kellogg Foundations I worked closely with colleagues in Teacher Education to institutionalize courses focused on social cultural theories and methods that affirm students’ racial/ethnic, cultural, and linguistic identities.
